Johnny Dean Mann

Canoeing Time, 1992 – an illustrated poem (Edition of 1, 2021)

A half-remembered, half-invented childhood. This illustrated poem is a dream fable from real events, part unreliably remembered childhood and part trauma, overly remembered. The writer and artist combine to weave a new world from fragments of the past.

Written by Jonathan Mann and illustrated by Anna Malina, an artist working with photography and found footage to create digital/analog hybrid work with collage and experimental animation techniques. Aside from still imagery she makes .gifs. short films and music videos.

This collaboration is a poem illustrated in eight visual steps and sold as a single artwork. To read about the background of this piece, click here.
