POESIA DE PROTESTA is an exhibition featuring 10 Spanish poems written by Hispanic women. The texts all express a form of protest – political, economic, sexual, or social. Each poem has been interpreted by a visual artist, with curation by Cuban historian and art professor Gladys Garrote.

In small cities
jobs also die: their impulse,
their relevance passes. Passes.
Sometimes they deserve to die,
and with dignity they leap:
make way. Pass.
Sometimes, they grow old:
weakened insist; dig shallow.
Nothing passes.
But it’s also possible to abandon them:
leave behind a furtive rodent,
my replacement.
Formulate unsolicited suggestions:
it’s the government, woman, open your soul,
sell underdevelopment.
Or, at least, exercise strategy:
consider, woman, three months in bed
for each termed pregnancy.
Share your knowledge, furtive rat:
silence is the only form
of contraception.
