Poetic Book Structures

Emily Edelman

2011-14.

A book is a mechanism of moving parts designed to deliver a story: a beginning, a winding middle, a close. The books in this series tell a story of mystery and surprise; they beg to be held and then uncovered. Text won’t be found in most of these, but each will offer a tiny adventure and reveal new ways to experience familiar forms.

The book objects in this series are sewn together or shaped in a nontraditional way: a book with 4 spines, a book whose binding makes a full loop, a book whose ratio is 1:20. Each provides a new kind of book story.

A book is a poem.
